Everyone thinks you’ve got this
People come to you expecting an answer.
Most days, you find one.
What they don’t always see is that being capable can take more out of you than they realise.

3 Thoughts From Me
I.
Getting started can still be difficult
There’s a proposal you keep opening but never quite start.
You’ve done harder things before. Other people know you as someone who gets things done.
The longer it sits there, the more personal it begins to feel.
Experience doesn’t make every beginning easy.
II.
The words don’t always come
You can explain an idea naturally across a table.
Then you try to put it into a proposal or message, and it sounds nothing like you.
You rewrite the same sentence. Someone else’s words look effortless.
But you are comparing your unfinished page with the version they finally decided to share.
You haven’t seen what they deleted.
III.
The people closest to you get the tired version
You’ve spent the day being patient with clients, guests or colleagues.
Later, someone close to you asks a reasonable question. Your answer comes out sharper than you meant it to.
They weren’t the person who frustrated you. They were simply there when your patience ran out.
Good relationships have tired moments too.
2 Quotes From Others
I.
George Orwell on the struggle behind finished work:
““Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness.””
We see the finished work, not the struggle behind it. Even an experienced writer can find the words difficult.
II.
George Eliot on making life easier for one another:
““What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult to each other?””
That can become difficult when the people closest to us receive whatever patience we have left.
1 Question For You
People usually see what you handle. They don’t always see what it takes out of you.
What do people assume comes easily to you that sometimes takes more out of you than they realise?
With thanks,
David

P.S. Being trusted to handle things can feel good.
It can also make “I’m finding this difficult” surprisingly hard to say.
