On Action, Incentives, and Belonging

Just a few thoughts I’ve been turning over this week. If you're trying to make something meaningful and finding it hard to stay steady, this one’s for you.

3 Thoughts From Me

I.
Doing more doesn’t mean you’re moving forward. Sometimes busyness is just a way to avoid the thing that matters most.
II.
People don’t resist change. They resist discomfort. If you give them a reason to move that feels safer than standing still, they often will.
III.
Your habits are quiet signals. Each time you show up, you’re building the case for who you are. Not for others. For yourself.

2 Quotes From Others

I.
Mae Jemison:
“I felt like I had a right to be anywhere in this universe, that I belonged here as much as any speck of stardust, any comet, any planet.”
— Mae Jemison
(Then & Now: Dr Mae Jemison)
II.
James Baldwin:
“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
— James Baldwin
(I Am Not Your Negro, 2016. Documentary based upon the writings of James Baldwin)

1 Question For You

What’s one small decision you could make today that supports the kind of person you say you want to be?
With thanks,
David
P.S. You don’t need to overhaul your life. Just back one honest decision at a time.
