On the parts people leave out
The odd thing about getting older is that you spend less time asking who you should become.
You spend more time noticing what makes you feel like yourself.
It sounds smaller than it is.
You spend more time noticing what makes you feel like yourself.
It sounds smaller than it is.
3 Thoughts From Me
I.
There are periods where work feels like proof.
Proof that you matter.
Proof that you are moving.
Then work goes quiet for a week and suddenly your whole sense of yourself joins in.
II.
Style seems less interesting when it is trying to be noticed.
You see people become more comfortable in their own rhythm over time.
The way they dress.
The way they speak.
The things they stop apologising for.
III.
Careers often look tidy after the fact.
People tell the story from the middle onwards.
They rarely talk about the months where they sat at a desk wondering whether they had gone slightly wrong somewhere.
2 Quotes From Others
I.
On self worth
“Never love anyone who treats you like you're ordinary.”
(Book, 1891)
You sometimes need reminding that how you are treated quietly shapes how you feel about yourself.
II.
On work and time
“It takes a long time to become young.”
(Interview, 1956)
You do not always notice yourself becoming more yourself while it is happening.
1 Question For You
What is something in your life that feels easier when nobody is measuring it?
With thanks,

P.S. Some things become clearer after you stop standing over them waiting.
