Kindness, Habits, and Progress: Redefine Your Design Path
3 Thoughts From Me
I.
Stay Open to Learning
“The surest way to prevent yourself from learning a topic is to believe you already know it.”
In design, as in life, the moment we think we’ve mastered something, we close ourselves off from new ideas and perspectives. Every project, conversation, and even mistake can be a chance to learn. So, keep curiosity at the centre of your approach. By embracing a beginner’s mindset, you stay receptive to insights that might elevate your work beyond what you thought possible.
II.
Kindness as a Design Principle
“The older i am, the more I notice how valuable it is to do one simple thing: be kind.
– When someone does a good job, tell them.
– When someone makes a mistake, forgive them.
– When someone shares their problems, listen.
Being kind costs almost nothing. You may forget the gesture, but the other person might remember it forever.”
In design and collaboration, kindness is an often-overlooked tool. It’s the simplest way to build trust, encourage creativity, and create a positive working environment. The connections we foster in this way can be as transformative as the spaces we create.
III.
Focus on Trajectory, Not Just Results
“It doesn’t matter how successful or unsuccessful you are right now. What matters is whether your habits are putting you on the path toward success. You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results.” – Atomic Habits
Just as in life, progress in design often feels slow. But it’s the small, consistent steps that truly shape our path. Whether you’re building a new skill, refining a process, or developing your unique style, focus on where your habits are taking you. A steady trajectory of improvement will always outweigh any single result.

1 Question For You
Question to Ponder:
“If you could only work for one hour each day, what would you focus on to be most effective?”
This question invites us to consider our most valuable tasks. It’s a reminder to prioritise what truly drives progress, whether in design, personal growth, or daily life.
