Staying With What Matters

It feels like something you have been sitting with for a while.
Not loudly.
Just there, returning in small ways when things get quiet.

3 Thoughts From Me

I.
You might still find yourself looking for a way to make it easier. A way through that avoids the slower parts. Something that makes it all feel more certain. But most of what lasts does not arrive like that. It builds through repetition that no one really sees. And over time, that starts to feel like its own kind of ease.
II.
The work you care about might not feel dramatic. It can feel steady, almost plain. Like paying attention when it would be easier not to. Like noticing details that no one has asked you to notice. There is a kind of care in that. Even if you do not call it that.
III.
You might wonder if what you are making is becoming anything at all. It can feel like you are circling the same ground. Returning to the same questions without clear answers. There are long stretches where nothing seems to shift. And then, later, you see that something had been forming quietly.

2 Quotes From Others

I.
On repetition
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
— Will Durant
(book, 1926) ou can see how much of what you become comes from what you keep returning to.
II.
On care
“Where there is love there is life.”
— Mahatma Gandhi
(speech, 1925) What is something you have stayed with, even when it has not been obvious why?

1 Question For You

What is something you have stayed with, even when it has not been obvious why?
With thanks,

P.S. Some of the most important parts of your work do not announce themselves.
