The Quiet Return

Some weeks start like this.
Not with a bold return or a grand reveal.
Just the gentle relief of coming back to yourself.

3 Thoughts From Me

I.
It takes a while to return after disappearing. Even when you want to come back. Even when nobody noticed you were gone. The quiet re-entry can feel harder than the departure. You don't have to match your old pace right away. Just finding your footing is enough.
II.
Habits are strange creatures. They vanish when you're not looking. Or grow teeth when you try to reshape them. You might revise a process five times before it fits. That doesn't mean you're bad at habits. It means you're listening.
III.
Working smart isn't always efficient. Sometimes it's knowing what you can't carry today. Sometimes it's stopping even when there's more to do. Sometimes it's giving a clearer answer instead of a faster one. You can contribute more when you're not tangled up. Clarity doesn't always feel productive. But it keeps you human.

2 Quotes From Others

I.
On re-entry
“The great thing, if one can, is to stop regarding all the unpleasant things as interruptions of one's 'own', or 'real' life. The truth is of course that what one calls the interruptions are precisely one's real life.”
— C.S. Lewis
(Letter, 1943) This helps me remember that coming back is part of the work, not a detour from it.
II.
On clarity
“The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”
— George Bernard Shaw
(Attributed) I keep this nearby when I find myself trying to sound helpful, rather than actually being clear.

1 Question For You

What is one small thing you could do this week that would feel clear?
With thanks,
David
P.S. You don't have to prove you've returned. You already have.
