When Good Work Goes Quiet

If it’s been one of those strange kinds of weeks.
Not terrible, not brilliant.
Just the sort where your work didn’t quite match the response it got.

3 Thoughts From Me

I.
You put care into it. Made it work, even when it wasn’t easy. But no one paused to see that. So it didn’t quite land. Still, it mattered. And it counts, even when it’s quiet.
II.
You adjusted something you had spent time planning. Didn’t complain. Didn’t need credit. But it took something from you to do that. You made it look easy, though it wasn’t.
III.
You said yes when others hesitated. Tried to match what felt like a faster pace. Smiled through it, mostly. Didn’t ask for much in return. But now you feel a bit worn down. That doesn’t mean you weren’t enough.

2 Quotes From Others

I.
On being seen
“Sometimes people try to expose what’s wrong with you, because they can’t handle what’s right with you.”
— Unknown
(Seen on a poster, 2014) This reminds me that being unacknowledged doesn’t mean being unworthy.
II.
On quiet worth
“If you feel like you don’t fit in this world, it’s because you’re here to help build a new one.”
— Unknown
(Graffiti, 2017) This helps me stay close to what matters, even when it’s not recognised.

1 Question For You

Where have you made something easier for someone else, and barely noticed you did?
With thanks,
David
P.S. Just because it didn’t get seen, doesn’t mean it didn’t have impact.
