On time well used, steady principles, and the limits of titles .

Sometimes we want to skip ahead. To bypass the slow grind and arrive at the finished thing. But the pace is part of the point.

3 Thoughts From Me

I.
The closest thing to a time machine is a habit you can repeat without thinking. Small consistent actions move you forward faster than frantic sprints.
II.
High performance in design is rarely about speed. It’s about the calm focus that comes from knowing your principles and sticking to them under pressure.
III.
Titles can be comforting, but they can also trap you. When you define yourself too narrowly, you risk missing the work you are meant to do next.

2 Quotes From Others

I.
On time and habits
“Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.”
— William Penn
(Essay, 1693) A reminder that it’s not the hours we have, but how we use them, that moves our work forward.
II.
On principles
“Without principles we drift, and without humility we stagnate.”
— John Wooden
(Interview, 1997) Principles keep us anchored when decisions get hard and distractions are loud.

1 Question For You

What is one small action you could repeat this week that would make future work easier?
With thanks,
David
P.S. Patience is easier when you can see the thread between where you are and where you want to be.
